Core Values

Driven by our founders, these values make up the core of our culture. They are at the heart of everything we do and every decision we make.

 

Bold Creativity

We believe everyone should push for the right solution, not settle for the easy solution. We emphasize creativity early in the problem solving process to challenge conventional knowledge and find exceptional solutions.

Iteration

Continuous improvement is a way of life here. Quick and dirty prototypes are crucial for a great design. More iteration and improvement cycles result in a better final solution. We celebrate failures as opportunities for learning.

Quality

We like it when things do what they're supposed to do. We like the fact that VEX products "just work." We want the VEX name to be a promise which says, "this is something great" which exceeds expectations, every time.

Evolved Values

As our company has grown we've recognized more of what makes us who we are. Many of these are natural off-shoots of our core values.

 

Exceptional Moments

We strive to provide beautifully engineered experiences. When someone is engaged in any part of the VEX experience we want them to have exceptional moments. We want to make people smile. We want them to say "wow, that's cool!" or "I love how they did that!”

Inclusiveness

We need to provide solutions for as many people as possible to achieve our mission. Our tools should be SIMPLE enough that users of any background can use them, flexible enough to fulfill any educational need, and powerful enough so the experience scales with our customer skill level.

Customer Service and Integrity

We’ll make sure our customers have a good experience, even when things don’t go as well as planned. Our goal is that we "make things right" for all of our customers. This is our promise: If we make a mistake, we want to take responsibility for it and correct it.

Passion

VEX has been described as a “company of change makers”. We’re people who view our work not just as a job, but as a calling. We’re on a mission, and we're surrounded by those who are driven by that mission (including outside partners, inside team members, and very engaged customers).

Agility

We're opportunistic. We're proactive. Our employees are enabled by the way we value iteration and celebrate failures as opportunities for learning, so they naturally have a bias towards action. We want to be able to react to and anticipate new ideas that can help us achieve our mission.

High Value

We're a company founded by engineers so we inherently understand trade-offs. To fulfill our mission, we need to bring solutions which are able to scale big. This means finding the balance between performance and accessibility. We understand the trade-offs between extremes, and find the perfect high value solutions for our customers.

Make it Happen

We don’t always have everything we need; our company didn't have enough people, enough time, or enough resources. We still got the job done. The mentality here is "Just do it with what we have. Make it happen." We value people who are able to do more with less and handle the "scrappy" approach to success. We like people who respond well to adversity and can handle the uncertainty of challenges where we don't have all the information, don't have the resources we need, and still need to somehow get the job done.

Diverse Collaboration

The team at VEX Robotics is built to work as a cohesive team, not as a group of individuals. At VEX, a problem solving team will involve people from different departments, with different roles, different experience levels, different backgrounds, and will likely include people from outside our organization. We know diverse perspectives are critical for creative problem solving and idea generation.

Volunteerism and Mentorship

From the early days when our founders met while mentoring their local high school we’ve been continuously and actively supporting competition robotics programs. The majority of our staff members (yes, almost all of them) directly support competition robotics programs in their free-time, either by volunteering at events, or mentoring and leading teams! We don’t just provide products to these communities, we’re part of them.

Nerdiness

Yep, we’re huge nerds. We embrace it as a part of our corporate identity. This is the natural result of the fact that we’re a group of passionate people; we get excited about cool stuff — then we immerse ourselves into it. This happens all the time with items from popular culture, art, technology, and especially competitive robotics.

We want our people to feel like their creative potential is being fulfilled as they push to achieve our mission. We’re an organization of very passionate people who want to get things done, who take initiative and make things happen. Our people push for what they believe in and strive for greatness.
