Robot Brain (2nd generation)

The Robot Brain is essential for any VEX IQ build to use Smart Motors, Sensors, and a Controller.

The Brain runs user projects and controls the devices connected to the Brain. The Brain has twelve numbered ports that can accept IQ Smart Motors and IQ Sensors.  Learn More >

The Brain screen displays information and is operated with the four buttons on the Brain. Learn More > 

The Brain is powered by an IQ Battery, and includes a MicroSD card slot.  You can connect the Brain to your computer via the USB-C port. 

The Brain (2nd gen) has Bluetooth to connect wirelessly to tablet devices, and VEXnet to connect to an IQ Controller.

Controller

Controller

The Controller has two joysticks and 10 buttons. It is used to control a robot and communicate wirelessly to an IQ Robot Brain (2nd gen).  Learn More >

The Controller has a USB-C port for connecting to a computer and for charging.

Robot Battery

Robot Battery (2nd generation)

The Robot Battery is essential for any IQ build that includes electronics. The Battery provides power to the IQ Brain.

You can check the Battery level using an IQ Brain(2nd gen), or on the Battery itself, using the indicator lights.

To charge the Battery, connect to a power source using the USB-C port.

Smart Motor

Smart Motor

Smart Motor(s) can be connected to the Brain, and allow you to power your IQ builds. The built in processor, quadrature encoder, and current monitor allow for advanced control and feedback through the Robot Brain. Learn More >

USB Cable

2m USB Cable

The USB-A to USB-C Cable is used to charge the IQ Battery (2nd gen), and to connect a Robot Brain to your computer.  

Insert the USB-A side into a charger or computer, and the USB-C side into your Battery or Brain. 

The USB-A to USB-C Cable is 2 meters in length.

Touch LED

Touch LED

The Touch LED can detect capacitive touch (such as the touch of a finger) and can be used to display colored light. Learn more >

Optical Sensor

Optical Sensor

The IQ Optical Sensor detects if there is an object present and the color of the object. It will also register the brightness of light — this could be the brightness level of a room, or the brightness of a particular object. Learn more >

Connect the Optical Sensor to an IQ Robot Brain with a Smart Cable. Insert one end into the opening on the sensor, and the other end into one of the Smart Ports on the Brain.

Distance Sensor

Distance Sensor (2nd generation)

The Distance Sensor can detect an object, measure the distance from the front of the sensor to an object, and determine relative size of the detected object. The sensor uses a pulse of classroom-safe laser light to measure the distance from the front of the sensor to an object. Learn  more >

The 24x Pitch Rope is multipurpose piece that has many applications in IQ builds. It can be used to attach parts or facilitate a transfer of energy within a build.

Smooth Panel

2x8 Smooth Panel

The 2x8 Smooth Panel can be used with a dry-erase marker to write a name or classroom on the build. This can be useful when distinguishing between multiple robots.

Pin Tool

Pin Tool

The Pin Tool makes it easy to disassemble pieces in the VEX IQ construction system. The Pin Tool has several features that can be used to make disassembling easy: the Puller, the Pusher, and the Lever.

  • The Puller - can be used by placing the tool over the unwanted pin, squeezing the handles, and pulling out the pin.
  • The Lever - can be used to pry two beams apart.
  • The Pusher - is used to push out pins.

The 1x Wide Spool is a cylinder on which rope or a rubber band can be wound. The square hole in the center will fit a shaft to allow the spool to rotate.

Crank Arm with 23 Tooth Gear

Crank Arm with 23 Tooth Gear

The Crank Arm with 23 Tooth Gear is a combination of a beam and gear. The square hole will fit a shaft to allow the beam to rotate, and additional holes for standard connections. The gear teeth will enable this piece to mesh with other gears as well.

The Silicone Rubber Band is a stretchable band that is used in a variety of ways in IQ builds, such as creating power or to link Pulleys together.

Smart Cables are used to connect motors and sensors to the Brain. Insert one end of a Smart Cable into the motor or sensor, and the other end into one of the Smart Ports on the Brain.

1x Pitch Plastic Motor Snap Shaft

The 1x Pitch Plastic Motor Snap Shaft can act as both a pin and a shaft. It has a square peg with a flange on one side, then a round section, and a square peg on the other. The round side is a pin that can connect up to two pieces- one w/ a round hole and one w/ a square hole. The square side acts as a shaft, and can attach to one piece with a square hole. Learn More >

Idler Pin Green

0x2 Idler Pin

The 0x2 Idler Pin connects 2 pieces, and acts as a cap. It has a round section which allows it to be inserted into a round hole and it has a square peg which allows it to also be inserted into a square hole. The flat side of the 0x2 Idler Pin, or “cap” acts as a flange and stops parts from passing through.
